Albert Skira (1904–1973) was a pioneering Swiss publisher and art dealer who revolutionised the quality of art books and colour reproduction. Founded in Lausanne in 1928, his publishing house, Skira, became a global authority on the arts and a primary collaborator for the 20th century's greatest artists.
The publication was a rare art portfolio produced in Geneva and distributed by Galerie d'Art Latin in Stockholm. It was released to coincide with a Picasso ceramic exhibition held at the gallery that same year. Picasso himself designed the cover, which featured an original lithograph specifically for this edition. The text was written by Suzanne and Georges Ramié, the founders of the Madoura pottery workshop in Vallauris where Picasso created his ceramics.
