A rare 1970s "Papyrus"floor lamp by Italian designer and artist Nucci Valsecchi
A rare "Papyrus" floor lamp by Italian designer and artist Nucci Valsecchi. This stunning lamp was only made to order and only produced in very small quantities around 1970–1975 by Décoration Milano in Milan, Italy.
This truly stunning unique floor lamp is made of solid brass wire which was hand woven by very skilled Italian metalwork artisans. The three flower stems rise up like bunched papyrus stems and held together with a solid brass triangular spacer. The flower like tops each have a single fitting in and the light shimmers through the basket weave, with each flower rim beaded with solid brass spheres.
This quality statement lamp has been rewired with antique gold cord flex and foot switch and PAT tested
Nucci Valsecchi was an Italian artist, interior decorator, and designer active predominantly during the 1970s. She is highly regarded within 20th-century decorative arts for her refined approach to high-end furniture and lighting, balancing rigorous graphic geometry with the ultra-luxurious, rich textures of mid-century Italian design.
In 1970–1971, she partnered with the world-famous French-Italian celebrity photographer and furniture designer Willy Rizzo. They opened a high-profile design storefront and showroom together in Milan.
Her most famous industrial design output came from working alongside Tura Milano which was managed by Aldo and Giorgio Tura who were both powerhouses in post war furniture design.
Unlike many furniture manufacturers of the time who were moving more towards mass-produced products, Tura believed that high quality came from slow, meticulous attention to detail achieved by hand.
Nucci Valsecchi was active mainly during the 1970s and is recognised for her refined decorative approach, combining elegant materials with strong graphic compositions in collaboration with these key figures of Italian design.
